Student’s photography of Shenzhen published by China National Geography
    2019-07-10  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

深圳中學生拍攝的照片登上《中國國家地理》雜志

Photos of Shenzhen through the lens of Zhou Guannan, a senior 3 student at Shenzhen Hongling Middle School, were recently published in China National Geography (CNG) magazine, making a great impact on Zhou’s life.

Zhou has been a photographer from a young age. His father gave him a Nikon D300s as a gift when he graduated from elementary school. His love for photography started when he first lifted his camera to capture some of the old-fashioned buildings in Guangzhou in 2016. He realized that he could dwell on photography for a long time.

In order to develop his own understanding of photography, he started to look at the works of other photographers. He also learned about photography theories from professional books.

During the summer before Zhou went to Hongling Middle School, he climbed Tanglang Mountain in Shenzhen. At the Meiyu pavilion on the top of the mountain, Zhou recorded a relaxed scene of people drinking tea. This photo was soon published in CNG magazine, which Zhou had read since he was young. This made him so excited.

“A photo deserves a great experience instead of great honors,” said Zhou. “Every photo’s background can have a rich history or experience, which brings us into this beautiful world.”

Zhou is also the director of his school’s press station. He leads the team in recording and reporting on every event that happens at the school. According to Zhou, photos for reporting on news are different. They test the skill of capturing an instant at the scene instead of patiently waiting for the best shot.

Zhou has also set up an official WeChat account called “Langyue Journal.” He said that he does not know what his future will hold, but he is certain that it will relate to photography.
